As guest speaker at the first MRO Australasia conference to be held in Brisbane (Australia), our CEO Andrew Sanderson shared his insights into the actions required to recover Australia’s competitive position in the global aerospace supply chain.

A full audience engaged in the half-hour presentation at the Aviation Week conference, as our CEO deep-dived into Australia’s decline from a thriving industry in the 1990s. He further discussed our current position in the MRO market and his view on the actions required to recover and grow our competitiveness, globally.

Among his recommendations he noted what we need to do better as an industry. He noted rather than focusing on keeping 100% of the benefits inside one enterprise, we need to collaborate and consider how to share customers, providers, manufacturers and governments to meet the investment demands of more complex business cases for capability.

Further recommendations included leveraging skilled people working for us, building support for long-term infrastructure investments by making the market attractive for local capital markets, focusing on export and diversifying locations to other countries and starting early in new industries, such as urban mobility or electric engines.

After sharing what’s ahead for the industry, the audience was left with the final message that the opportunity to restore global competitiveness and grow our industry exists today. Restoring and growing our competitiveness in the changing and challenging market requires that we start thinking now about the 20 years ahead.
